The Return of the High Street: Our Favorite UK Stores for Spring Shopping
Pablo FerratWe've noticed something wonderful happening recently – after years of online shopping dominance, there's something of a renaissance happening on our high streets. Last weekend, we spent a delightful Saturday wandering through central London, and the energy was palpable. Shops were buzzing with people actually trying things on again, something we've missed during the online shopping boom!
M&S has particularly impressed us this season. Their linen collection strikes that perfect balance between quality and affordability, with colors that feel modern rather than matronly. The new sizing options are also more inclusive, acknowledging that British shoppers come in all shapes and sizes. Meanwhile, & Other Stories continues to deliver on accessories – their leather bags are giving luxury brands a run for their money at a third of the price, and their shoe collection this season is particularly strong.
For sustainable options, we were pleasantly surprised by the offerings at John Lewis's new conscious fashion section. Their curated selection from ethical brands felt fresh rather than the beige, shapeless "eco-fashion" of years past. Our favorite find? A structured blazer made from recycled materials that looks perfect with jeans for those slightly warmer spring days we're all desperately waiting for!
We've also rediscovered the joy of smaller, independent boutiques that are flourishing in market towns across the country. These shops often stock local designers and unique pieces you won't see everywhere. We recently visited a lovely shop in Bath that specializes in British-made knitwear – perfect for those chilly spring evenings when temperatures drop unexpectedly.
The pandemic seems to have sparked a renewed appreciation for the tactile experience of shopping in person. There's something about feeling fabrics, testing the comfort of shoes, and getting immediate styling advice that online shopping simply can't replicate. Are you all finding yourselves drawn back to physical stores this season?
